My deep dive in to health almost 17 years ago classified me as a purist. If it didn’t come from nature it wasn’t for me. When it came to hormones, I was in the camp with those that believed they declined as we got older; it was just part of the cycle; and not to mess with it. Then my doctor raved about the benefits of bio identical progesterone for mood, sleep, hot flashes, weight management, bone health, and even protection against certain diseases! Yet, I was still on the fence: I grew up with a mother who is an insane researcher (I guess the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree). She read every single Suzanne Sommers and Dr. Christiane Northrup book on the subject and agreed with hormone replacement therapy (HRT). Until she didn’t, which confused me. It was time I did my own research, and research I did. The bottom line: opinions of “the experts” are completely skewed. Starting with the study from the Women’s Health Initiative in 2002 that caused wide-spread fear that remains today, even though it was later debunked.
